In direct response to Governor Holcomb’s Executive Order 20-07, the Indiana Election Commission met on March 25, 2020, and unanimously voted to officially postpone Indiana’s May 5, 2020, primary election to June 2, 2020. The order applies to all Indiana counties and election boards. All dates corresponding to and calculated from the May 5, 2020, date are extended by 28 days. The order also allows for no-excuse absentee voting by mail and possibly online through indianavoters.in.gov.
The Commission will meet on April 22, 2020, at 10 a.m. in order to address any issues surrounding the methods and procedures necessary to implement a vote-by-mail election for the June 2, 2020, primary election. The Commission will also focus on statutes that would need to be addressed to allow the major political parties to hold their state convention with the postponed primary date.
