WASHINGTON—Bose Public Affairs Group LLC (BPAG) announced today that Candace Tiana Nelson has joined the firm as senior vice president on the firm’s local Washington, DC, government relations team.

Nelson brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across district government, public policy, government relations and community affairs. One of the few professionals to have served in executive, legislative and judicial branch roles in the district, she has advised senior government leaders, managed complex policy and operational initiatives, built influential coalitions and helped organizations navigate government to achieve results.

“Candace has spent her career bringing people together to solve problems and get things done,” said Jon Mandel, head of the firm’s local Washington government relations practice. “Her experience spans every side of district government. That combination of substantive knowledge, relationships and sound judgment makes her an immediate asset to our practice, and her ability to bridge competing interests and drive consensus makes her a valuable resource for clients navigating the district’s dynamic political environment.”

Most recently, Nelson served as chief of staff to Ward 4 Councilmember and Democratic nominee for mayor Janeese Lewis George, where she directed office operations and staff while providing strategic counsel on legislative priorities, constituent engagement and stakeholder relations. In that role, she helped advance the Councilmember’s policy agenda and served as a key liaison among district agencies, businesses, community organizations and residents.

“DC is home, and I remain deeply dedicated and connected to the community,” Nelson said. “Joining Bose Public Affairs Group gives me the opportunity to continue work rooted in public service while focusing on issues and initiatives that will improve the lives of residents across all eight wards.”

Nelson has also served in leadership, policy and operational roles across district government, including the Department of Health Care Finance, Department of Employment Services, Department of Human Services, Executive Office of the Mayor and Department of Small and Local Business Development. She was transition director and chief of staff for Attorney General Brian Schwalb’s 2022 transition, leading transition operations, helping facilitate the transfer of power between administrations and overseeing the development of recommendations for the incoming attorney general.

In addition to her government experience, Nelson brings firsthand political and civic leadership experience. She previously served as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in Ward 4 and has held leadership roles with numerous District organizations, including president of the Ward 4 Democrats and Chair of Chairs for the DC Democratic Party. She currently serves as president of the DC Democratic Black Caucus.

Nelson earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed graduate coursework in legislative affairs at The George Washington University. She is a graduate of the Peace and Conflict Resolution – Politics of Decision-Making Fellowship at George Mason University.
